After finishing MESCI I decided to continue my academic career researching on environmental issues. My first idea was to return to Spain, so I did; but before doing so I stayed three months in Ecuador, working for a local NGO elaborating an economic analysis of rural income in El Carchi (north of Ecuador). Back in Spain I joined an inter-university phD program (M. O. en Análisis Económico Aplicado, Universidad de Alcalá and Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and during the lessons I started researching on water scarcity and water management issues in a project financed by the Spanish Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, together with Carlos Mario Gómez, one of the most important researchers in this field. During the course of this project I received an offer from the Spanish Research Council, which I accepted. Nowadays I’m working for the Council in a project which aims to compute the total economic value (both environmental and commercial income and capital) of some Andalusian productive units using green accounting. While working here, I’m also writing my doctoral thesis with Pablo Campos, who is the main researcher and director of the project.
MESCI convinced me to join the academic sphere, and gave me the opportunity of improving my knowledge in many fields in which I was interested. Furthermore, I had the opportunity of meeting extraordinary people and an extraordinary city.
Now I am a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at FEEM and research affiliate at the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC), I'm a project leader of the project "Droughts and agriculture: the role of insurance"
